Tony Blair called her "the People’s Princess" and perhaps she was the people’s princess. She was certainly cherished more by the general public than she ever was by the family that wanted her to marry their Prince Charles. Princess Diana, the Princess of Wales, was the media’s favorite person to follow and even after her death, many reporters still looked for things to discuss about Princess Diana.
Born in 1961, Princess Diana was destined to be royalty so it wasn’t any surprise when she became engaged to Prince Charles in February of 1981. She later married him in July of 1981. The couple did have two sons. Prince William and Prince Henry, affectionately called Prince Harry by the media.
"A public figure" doesn’t begin to describe Princess Diana or what her life really meant to those who were able to capture elements of it from behind the camera. She was always in front of adoring fans and eager eyes. She was put on display by her husband and thanks to Princess Diana, the rest of the world became very aware of who Prince Charles was and would eventually become. Prior to his marriage to Princess Diana, few people cared about Prince Charles.
Princess Diana was the youngest daughter of Edward John Spencer. Her godfather was John Floyd of Christie’s Fine Arts Auction House. When Diana was a girl, her father became the 8th Earl Spencer and when he did, she became Lady Diana Spencer.
Princess Diana’s royal background made it easy for the family of Prince Charles to accept her. Her father’s family members were descendants of King Charles II and her mother’s family members were descendants of King James II. Both kings were Kings of England.
Princess Diana’s marriage fell apart at the end of the eighties. Charles began to openly flaunt his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles and Princess Diana supposedly had an affair with James Hewitt who was her riding instructor at the time.
The couple eventually divorced among whispers. The media portrayed it like it was Charles fault and the world sided with Princess Diana. In August of 1997, the world mourned as the announcement came. Princess Diana was killed in a car accident. For the next decade, rumors would surround her death.
