Leonardo de Vinci is the man who is first thought of when most people hear about the Renaissance Period. It shouldn’t be a surprise because he has often been referred to as the "Renaissance Man".
Leonardo de Vinci was an accomplished painter and yet he was very talented in various areas of creative abilities as well as intellectual accomplishments. He was a scientist, mathematician, sculptor, inventor, and the list goes on. He was highly intelligent and artistic beyond words.
Leonardo de Vinci was educated by Florentine painter Verrocchio. While he learned from Verrocchio, Leonardo de Vinci possessed the talent and was born with the ability to create beautiful paintings and sculptures. He was considered one of the greatest painters of his time and today is still considered one of the most creative of all time.
Most historians have estimated that Leonardo de Vinci had his own workshop or studio from 1476 until 1481. From 1513 until 1516, Leonardo spent time living in Belvedere in the Vatican of Rome.
His famous works, The Last Supper and Mona Lisa still gain high praise. The photos of the paintings are often found in textbooks and in antique stores that carry replica art. Leonardo de Vinci died in 1519. He will forever be remembered as an extraordinary painter but it can’t be ignored that he was an intellectual who lived for expanding his own mind with creative art and ingenious study.
From out the Renaissance period, Leonardo de Vinci rose into a claim of fame that would live on forever and because of his work, many others that followed him had their art recognized. Still, few ever gained the notoriety that Leonardo de Vinci owned for himself.
