Milton Faver was born around 1822. Like many born in this era, very little is known about his early life or childhood but later in life, he would make his mark on history. Faver was born in Virginia and at some point in his youth; he fought in a duel where he is thought to have killed the man he fought. The duel took place in Missouri and he went to Mexico soon after.

He married a woman while he was in Mexico and soon he began transporting freight. He was once wounded during an attack with Indians. Even with all the business hazards, the business was prosperous and soon Faver was able to turn it over to the employees working for him. He moved his family to Texas where he settled right outside of the Rio Grande.

Later he would lose a fight with the Apache Indians when his Morita Ranch was under siege. Lives would be lost. However, it wouldn't keep Faver from going on to discover a prosperous cattle business. With the military at Fort Davis, Faver's cattle business thrived until the raid where he was forced to begin again but begin again he did and did so successfully.

Milton Faver was like many in the cattle business in that he did what it took to keep his ranch running. His hired hands made peach brandy, traded for their necessities and eventually Faver had a herd of over ten thousand cattle.

A tough business man, Milton Faver collected for his cattle sales as the cows were sold. This meant standing at the gate and collecting the money for the cattle as they changed ownership. In 1886, Faver decided to get out of the cattle business. His final big sale was to Joe Humphreys. He died in 1899. He is still considered one of the most successful cattle barons to ever live.
