Tameka Foster ( - )  Category ( Businessmen_Women ) [suggest a correction]

The marriage of Tameka Foster and pop star Usher Raymond III seems to have been doomed from the start.

Foster was a hair stylist in Atlanta when she met Usher, and already had three sons from previous relationships. She was eight years older than the millionaire singer.

The wedding was originally set for July of 2007 (five months after Usher proposed), but Usher announced a postponement on the eve of the ceremony. The National Inquirer, among others, reported that Usher had discovered that his fiancee had a criminal record, but the marriage did take place the following month.

On Nov. 26, 2007, Tameka gave birth to Usher Raymond IV in Atlanta. Just over a year later, the couple's second son, Naviyd, arrived in December '08.

In February of ’09, Tameka flew to Sao Paulo, Brazil to undergo liposuction surgery, but she had a life-threatening reaction to the anesthesia and nearly died on the operating table. The attending physicians managed to revive her, and she was placed in a drug-induced coma for 24 hours.

Usher bowed out of a pre-Grammy gig for Clive Davis and flew down to Sao Paulo to be with his wife. Accompanying him was a top American neurologist.

The couple never lived together again, however, and had in fact been informally separately at the time of Tameka’s Brazilian health crisis.

According to the tabloids, Usher had been seeing a 42-year old Def Records producer.  There were also published reports of conflict between Tameka and Usher’s mother, who had raised him as a single parent in Chattanooga, TN.

Finally, in June of ’09, Usher formally filed for divorce from Tameka.

“The marriage between the parties is irretrievably broken,” said the petiton entered by Usher’s attorney. “There is no reasonable hope of reconciliation.”

For her part, Tameka Raymond referred to herself as “A faithful wife and a loving mother” and announced she was contesting the divorce.

Ironically, a post-divorce rumor had Tameka joining ATL's "Real Housewives of Atlanta," but she squelched that in a press conference.

"Although [Bravo] approached me, and I was flattered by the offer, I will not be joining the 'Real Housewives' cast," she said.

She may have been too busy. Raymond is now the CEO of Swanky Image Group and owner of Hides & Dungarees Denim Collection. She also started a foundation called "The Lost Ones," a non-profit that tries to teach healthy self image to 12 to 18-year-old girls. The foundation offers these "at risk" teens four-day retreats, seminars, beauty makeovers and motivational speakers.
