Meryl DavisIce dancer Meryl Davis is the 2010 Olympic silver medalist in her sport. She partners with Charlie White and the two have competed and won at the national and international level. They are currently ranked number one in the world for ice dancing. Davis came to the sport early; at age five she began to learn to ice skate, as she lived near to a lake and wanted to be able to skate on it in winter.

At age eight began to train for ice dance. By the time she was ten she was paired up with Charlie White and they were off to early success. They are to date the longest partnership of any dance team in the United States; they even grew up only ten minutes from each other. Their first year dancing together netted them a silver medal at the Junior Olympics. They qualified for national competition in 2000, but did not win big until 2003, when they won their sectional championship and a silver medal at Nationals. That win propelled them to the World Junior Figure Skating Championships, where they placed 13th.

In 2006 they competed and won at the senior level of competition, earning all level fours on their elements at the NHK Trophy that year.

Davis graduated from high school in 2005 and is now enrolled at the University of Michigan, majoring in cultural anthropology. She has stated that continuing her education is very important to her. Despite juggling a rigorous training and competition schedule, Davis finished high school as a member of the National Honor Society and received the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa award. Her favorite subjects were French and English. Additionally, she was recognized by a Detroit television station as Scholar-Athlete of the week for April 30, 2005.

She loves animals, especially horses and dogs. She enjoys reading, especially fiction and fantasy. Other sports she enjoys when she is not skating include beach volleyball, water and snow skiing, and she enjoys watching basketball. She has a little bit of everything on her iPod, and loves to learn foreign languages.

After college she hopes to enroll in graduate school and would like to work for National Geographic. She has stated that she would like to someday meet Queen Rania of Jordan, as she represents a rare and admirable powerful female presence in the Middle East, and for her philanthropic work with children.
