World-renowned ballet dancer Angel Corella was born in Madrid, Spain. His parents enrolled him in dance class at an early age, and by the time he was a pre-teen he was winning dance awards. He received First Prize in the 1991 National Ballet Competition in Spain. When he was only nineteen years old he won the prestigious Grand Prix and Gold Medal at the Concours International de Danse de Paris.

It was during one of these early competitions that Corella attracted the notice of one of the most famous ballerinas of the twentieth century, Russian dancer, Natalia Makarova. She quickly alerted the artistic director of the American Ballet Theatre to Corella's rising star. An audition was arranged, and he was offered the position of soloist at ABT in 1995. The very next year he was promoted to principal dancer.

Aside from his considerable talent and skill, Corella was able to develop a worldwide following of dance fans and supporters by performing as a guest artist. He has performed with the Royal Ballet in Londan, La Scala Ballet in Milan, the New York City Ballet, the Ballet of Tokyo, the National Ballet of Chile, the Australian Ballet, and others. A particular high point of his career occurred in 2008, when he debuted with the Kirov Ballet -- Russia's premier ballet company -- performing the iconic role of Prince Siegfried in Swan Lake. Corella has also enriched his career by performing in a number of festivals, galas, and other special events. He has danced before Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom, as well as the President of the United States.

He regularly partners with other world-class dancers, including Gudrun Bojesen, from the Royal Danish Ballet, Ethan Stiefel of ABT, and Nikolai Tsiskaridze of Russia's Bolshoi Ballet. These dancers often have toured with Corella as "The Kings of the Dance." Corella formed his own company, Angel Corella & Stars of the American Ballet. Today he serves as the Artistic Director of Corella Ballet. Throughout his career, Corella'd attention to sensitive dramatic detail in his roles has won him acclaim. He is also noted for his sense of musicality. Many of the world's most gifted and famous ballerinas have partnered with Corella, including Alessandra Ferri, Julie Kent, Xiomara Reyes, Gillian Murphy, Diana Vishneva, Alina Cojocaru, Paloma Herrera, Irina Dvorovenko, and others.

Since his debut with the ABT, he has performed nearly all of the major and some of the secondary roles in the most widely known ballets. Choreographers have created roles tailored especially for Corella, including Christopher Wheeldon, Mark Morris, David Parsons, Twyla Tharp, and others. Such a stellar career demands recognition, and Corella has and continues to win prestigious dance awards. Among them are the Prix Benois de la Dance, in 2000, the National Award of spain, 2003, Dance Europe Magazine Dancer of the Year Award, 2007, Leonid Massine Award, and the International Medal of Arts, Spain, 2009. Like the athletes of certain sports, a ballet dancer's career typically spans no more than twenty years. Like other great dancers before him, he continues to dance, but now focuses on establishing opportunities for young dancers.

In 2001 he formed the Angel Corella Foundation, which promotes classical dance in Spain. The foundation supports and provides opportunities for the finest professional training to all dancers, regardless of their economic or social condition.
