He was an American patriot and a politician. He was considered a "Founding Father" from the US State of Georgia. He was Abraham Baldwin, born the son of a blacksmith and destined to make his mark on history.
Abraham Baldwin was born in 1754 in Connecticut. He was the son of a blacksmith who actually had two wives and twelve children. He attended a local school but his father ensured that his children had the opportunity to become educated so he spent all the money he had trying to educate them.
Baldwin attended Yale in 1772. Three years passed and he became a minister and tutored others at the college. He was there until 1779 and was actually offered a full-time position with Yale. He turned down the position.
He was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives and Abraham Baldwin was at the 1785 Continental Congress Assembly. Later, evidence would be found showing proof that George Washington once confided in Baldwin stating that he didn't expect the Constitution to remain in effect for more than twenty years.
After Abraham's father died, Baldwin realizing the importance of education, took over the responsibility of providing the means to educate his half brothers and sisters. They were offered the same opportunity that allowed Abraham Baldwin to become noted and remembered as a historical figure of the United States.
