He was known as Leandro Bassano and Leandro del Ponte and either name carried with it the name recognition of a remarkable painter. Leandro was a Venetian artist and his fans knew him regardless of the name that he hid behind.
The brother of painter Francesco Bassano the Younger, he would study with his brother and eventually take over his brother's workspace when Francesco moved to Venice. Leandro was a creative talent but he also appreciated the work of his father which involved religion. When his brother moved, Leandro worked closely with his father.
Leandro Bassano was most well known for his work in painting portraits. Leandro inherited his father's studio but later chose to take the Venice studio that his brother left behind after committing suicide. It was in Venice that Bassano became more intuitive and creative. His work following closely with the style of Tintoretto, another Venetian painter. He would gain a knighthood appointment from Doge of Venice in the late 1500s and his title would later be recognized as Knight of the Order of St. Mark.
Leandro Bassano's artwork did have a large and recognizable problem. Since his art pieces aren't at all clearly dated, his work was often given to the credit of other artists something that he could've worked harder to avoid during his lifetime. However, it is one of the unique aspects of Leadro that only seems to fuel his legacy. Leandro Bassano died in 1622.
