Burbridge Margaret ( 1919 - )  Category ( Astronomers ) [suggest a correction]

Margaret Burbridge was born into a family where science was king. Her mother and father were both interested in the sciences and both of them studied at the Manchester School of Technology which is located in England. Both of her parents were students of chemistry.

Astronomy seemed to be Margaret Burbridge’s calling. She stated once that she knew from the time that she was four years old that she wanted to study astronomy. She probably didn’t know what it was termed but she knew she had the interest. She remembered having the interest when she was traveling by boat from England to France and it stuck with her throughout her life. The desire to study astronomy.

Margaret Burbridge would go on to study at the University College in London where she would receive her Ph.D. She married Geoffrey Burbridge and together they would pursue their love of the sciences. Margaret Burbridge would go on to gain the recognition for various works and she would inevitably earn awards for various accomplishments.

Margaret was the principal investigator of the University of California San Diego NASA project. She has also gained over twelve honorary degrees from various colleges and universities which has furthered the recognition that she’s achieved in her career.

Margaret and her husband wrote various papers on their research and their discoveries. She has taught others about astronomy through her work and her writing.

Margaret Burbridge eventually became a U.S. citizen. In 1976, she became the President of the American Astronomy Society and many who studied within the sciences would agree that she was the one for the job. She was later elected to the American Association of the Advancement of Sciences presidential seat. Again, there wasn’t any argument that she deserved to take the reins.

Margaret Burbridge continued her work throughout her life. She served on various boards and held positions within many of them. She also served as the Vice President of the American Astronomical Society.
