Ole Kirk Christiansen was born in 1891. Very little is known about Christiansen or his youth. However, the Danish toy maker would go on to form one of the most prosperous companies of his era.
A carpenter and a toymaker, Ole Kirk Christiansen discovered a toy company that would later become widely known as the simple "LEGO" company. With his son, the company would become one of the most familiar toy companies ever and would be considered one of the more well respected companies started from humble beginnings.
With a solid beginning in 1932, Ole Kirk Christiansen pushed his Denmark company to overwhelming limits. His company made stepladders, ironing boards, and wooden toys. However, the company realized the most success with the smaller wooden toys.
In 1934, LEGO had the company foundation to stand upon while branching off to become a stand alone company as well. The name "LEg GOdt" actually carried a Danish meaning of "play well".
By 1947, business was more than a little busy. In fact, it was booming. The company became the first in the region to buy a plastic injection molding machine which was used for the sole reason of making toys.
1955 brought with it a new launch of LEGO brand toys. The LEGO brand toys offered consumers 28 sets and various "Systems of play" for those who found LEGO toys enjoyable. Ole Kirk Christiansen's company had become one that could stand the test of time.
