Magic Johnson once said, "There’s Michael Jordan and then there’s the rest of us" and of course, no one knew of Michael Jordan’s skills any better than those who played against him on the basketball court. By some accounts, he is considered the greatest basketball player who has ever lived or ever will live.

Michael Jordan was born in Brooklyn in 1963. He moved to Wilmington, North Carolina with his family when he was seven years old and attended a local high school. He played baseball, football and basketball proving that he was able to be multi-talented in all sports.

He earned a scholarship to the University of North Carolina where he majored in cultural geography. He was named the ACC Freshman of the Year and carried a high average-points-per-game.

In 1984, Michael Jordan was in the NBA draft. It was the draft that would place him on the Chicago Bulls team when he was the third draft pick overall.

Michael Jordan’s success in the NBA was second to none. His awards and honors earned have been nothing short of remarkable. He was the NBA Rookie of the Year in 1985, the NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 1988 and in 1991; he was Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.

Michael Jordan played on two Olympic winning teams. America would take home the gold both times in basketball.

Today, Michael Jordan is retired. He is co-owner of the professional Charlotte Bobcats and he spends his time riding motorcycles and playing golf. He will forever be well respected among those athletes who had the privilege to shoot hoops with one of the greatest basketball players to ever live.
