Daniel M. Gable was born in 1948. His birthplace was in Waterloo, Iowa. Gable had one older sister. His mother provided a stable home environment and Dan’s father became an active source of inspiration for the young boy taking him to wrestling meets when he wasn’t working his real estate business.
When Gable was only sixteen years old, his older sister was sexually assaulted and murdered in their home. The murderer was caught, tried, and convicted but the whole incident weighed heavy on Dan’s shoulders. Dan’s parents had been out of town at the time of the incident.
Dan’s pursuits in wrestling became inspired and later grew into an obsession. While in high school, Dan was undefeated as a light-weight. He had an amazing 64-0 record which included twenty-five pins.
1966 brought with it the opportunity to attend Iowa State University. It was while he was at Iowa State that his career began to take shape. He won the Gorrarian Award and was dubbed the greatest "pinner in college history". Daniel M. Gable was voted most outstanding wrestler at numerous tournaments and he became the man to beat in college wrestling.
Daniel Gable is a family man. He is married and he has four daughters. His career still skyrockets in various ways. He’s an acclaimed author and he has written various books on wrestling and techniques for wrestling. His name has even been connected to a popular brand of Asics shoes.
Daniel M Gable lives in Iowa City today and works with performance enhancement at the University of Iowa. He is the assistant to the Director of Athletics. He is also a wrestling analyst and works for Iowa Public Television.
