After his first mainstream film break in Full Metal Jacket, Vincent D’Onofrio gained the popular Detective Robert Goren role in Law and Order: Criminal Intent where fans of the show almost always include the detective among their list of reasons for watching.
Vincent D’Onofrio was born in Brooklyn, New York. Since his family stayed on the move, Vincent grew up in Colorado, Hawaii, and Florida. He graduated from high school in Florida and then attended a university in Colorado before dropping out.
Vincent D’Onofrio was accepted at American Stanislavsky Theatre in New York City where he began acting in a variety of productions. During this time, he appeared in the Broadway production Open Admissions.
His big break came with a role that he had to gain seventy pounds to take on. He appeared in Full Metal Jacket and it would become his first major role. He appeared in Adventures of Babysitting and other big screen films before trying his hand as a producer.
The big screen led Vincent D’Onofrio to the small screen where he found a lead role in Law and Order: Criminal Intent as the savvy Detective Robert Goren. He also won a 1997 Emmy Nomination for a small part he played in Homicide: Life on the Street. Vincent D’Onofrio starred in the 2006 movie The Break Up opposite Jennifer Anniston.
Vincent D’Onofrio was married to Greta Scacchi and they have a daughter. He later married Carin Van Der Donk and they have a son together. Vincent’s sister, Elizabeth D’Onofrio teaches acting lessons in the gorgeous mountains of Asheville, North Carolina.
SEPT 2, 2008 : Elizabeth no longer teaches in North Carolina. As of 2007, she is now teaching and acting in the Fort Meyers, Florida area and teaches cold reading workshops around the country. |
