He was born in Scotland in 1950 and would go through the world of racing as the talented Scottish race car driver who was capable of winning races. He expected to win them. Tom Walkinshaw became racing royalty and winning has been the foundation that he has used to build an empire as well as a lifelong legacy.

Tom Walkinshaw started his career in 1968. He began his career with the MG Midget racing the MG before moving on to the Lotus Formula Ford car. In 1970, Walkinshaw entered the British Formula Three Championship and his career was well underway.

He drove in various classes throughout his career including the Formula 5000 and Formula Two. There wasn’t anything the man couldn’t drive so the classes where he raced didn’t really matter.

Ford hired him for the British Touring Car Championship in 1974 realizing that it was a move that would allow them to win the class that year and Walkinshaw brought home the win. It was expected and achieved.

In 1984, he won the European Touring Car Championship racing a Jaguar XJS. He would go on to retire as a driver in 1988.

1995 brought with it a Tom Walkinshaw and Jaguar partnership. A three-car team was formed for the Bathurst 1000 in Australia. In late 2006, Tom decided to purchase Elfin Cars and with the purchase, he began trying out car manufacturing.

Tom Walkinshaw is a determined man and his determination has been honored more than once. Perhaps one of the biggest honors of his career was when Oxford Brookes University awarded him with an honorary degree by presenting him with their Doctor of Engineering degree. Successful in life and in racing, Tom Walkinshaw is the founder of Tom Walkinshaw Racing and is a Professional Rugby Club owner.
