In 1999, Time Magazine named Albert Einstein "Person of the Century". Time Magazine wasn’t the first to think so. It is believed by many today as well as in years past that Albert Einstein was by far the most brilliant physicist of all time. Often synonymous with genius, the name Einstein still reels in attention when someone is compared to that of the more beautiful minds.
Albert Einstein was born in 1879, the Jewish son of a family living in Germany. His father was a salesman and also an engineer. Einstein’s father and uncle built a company that manufactured electrical wares. Their company was the first company to provide lighting for Oktoberfest.
As a young man, it was evident that Einstein had a gift for mathematics. He was a genius when it came to geometry and calculus and it was evident. In 1894, the family moved to Italy after Einstein’s father failed in his business. During the move, Einstein wrote
The Investigation of the State of Aether in Magnetic Fields. It was the first of his creative scientific writings. Soon after, at the age of sixteen, Albert Einstein began a thought experiment where he envisioned traveling beside a beam of light.
Albert Einstein met Mileva Maric while attending the ETH of Zurich. A science and technology university, Mileva was the lone female studying math. Einstein would later marry Mileva. They had one daughter and two sons but little is known about Einstein’s daughter. It is believed that she was given up for adoption.
Albert Einstein graduated from ETH in 1900. He earned his degree in physics. After graduation, Einstein took a position in a patent office in Bern. It was believed that this position was a waste of the brilliant talent that he possessed. However, in 1905, he did write four papers that would be published while he worked at the patent office. Today, these papers are still considered remarkable and because of these four papers, 1905 was dubbed as Einstein’s "Wonderful Year".
Einstein would continue to use his mind to create ingenious theories while writing about them as well as developing them. He is known for so many accomplishments including general relativity, special relativity, Photoelectric effect, United Field Theory, and others. In 1924, Albert Einstein was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics. Years later, in 1955, Albert Einstein died of a ruptured aneurism. He was seventy-six years old.
