Wilhelm Wundt ( 1832 - 1920 )  Category ( Psychologists ) [suggest a correction]

He will forever be referred to as the "Father of Experimental Psychology" and is considered the "Founder of Modern Psychology" as well. Wilhelm Wundt was born in Germany in 1832. He went away to boarding school when he was thirteen before going on to study at several universities in Germany.

Graduating with a degree in medicine from The University of Heidelberg, he joined the staff at the university and began to continue his study and research working with psychologist and physicist Hermann von Helmholtz. He was there until 1864 and while there, he wrote Contributions to the Theory of the Sense of Perception. He also married while he was in Heidelberg. Sophie Mau became his wife.

During that era, Wundt taught the first scientific psychology class ever taught. He worked diligently on Principles of Physiological Psychology. It would prove to be one of the most impressive and influential works ever written on the subject of psychology. The texts found in Principles of Physiological Psychology have been heavily discussed and the principles are taught throughout the world in various colleges and universities.

In 1875, Wilhelm Wundt set up what would become the first psychological lab at the University of Leipzig. Prominent scholars interested in psychology would travel to Germany just to view the laboratory and it provided inspiration for other labs including those found at Harvard and Yale.

Later in life, Wilhelm Wundt continued his work in psychology with a different focus within its realms. His work in social psychology is chronicled in a ten-volume collection entitled Social Psychology. Wilhelm Wundt died in 1920 but his legacy in psychology will remain steadfast in the work that he left behind.
