Who hasn't heard of the Diary of Anne Frank? It has become a classic and is often on the course syllabus for various student reading suitable for teenagers and young adults. Anne Frank is the author of the book and she is the main character who unfortunately met an untimely demise. Her book chronicles her time in hiding with her family and friends.
Anne Frank was the German-born Jewish daughter of Otto Frank. She could've survived the Holocaust if the Frank family hadn't been betrayed but unfortunately, fate wouldn't be kind to the Frank family.
When the family and four of their friends went into hiding in Amsterdam during the German occupation, World War II forced them to remain there for many long months.
The Frank family had moved to Amsterdam in 1933 after the Nazis gained German-empowerment.
The Franks including young Anne Frank, became trapped when the Nazis occupied the area and forced Jews into hiding. Those captured would be shipped immediately to the concentration camps. Otto Frank's office building had rooms where he could hide his family and several close friends and they went into hiding. However, soon they were discovered after someone betrayed them.
Since the Franks were considered criminals because they were found in hiding, they were shipped off to the camps designed for those who were deemed prisoners. Seven months after her arrest, Anne Frank and her sister fell ill with typhus while prisoners of the camp. They died at Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp.
Her father, who survived the concentration camps, later found her diary and published it. The Diary of Anne Frank is a very special memoir but it is also one that demonstrates excellent writing skills from a young woman who had her life cut far too short from the brutality of Hitler's war.
