Todd Marinovich ( 1969 - )  Category ( Athletes ) [suggest a correction]

Todd Marinovich was born on Independence Day, July 4, 1969 in San Leandro, California to Marv Marinovich, is a former NFL lineman now famous for his innovative workout technique, Proper Body Exercise. While the elder Marinovich still trains the likes of Troy Polamalu, his first and brightest protege was his son.

According to a Sports Illustrated article entitled, "Bred to Be a Superstar," readers learned that Todd never ate a Big Mac, Oreo or Ding Dong. His father also steered him away from sugar and refined white flour and he ate only beef without hormones, unprocessed dairy products and homemade catsup. A football was in Todd's crib from day one.

Todd gained national attention at Capistrano Valley High when he shattered national football passing records, making him one of the most prized recruits of 1987. He followed in his father's footsteps by attending USC. He led the Trojans to a Rose Bowl in his freshman year, but ultimately left school early to join the Oakland Raiders as a first round draft pick. But before he left USC he managed to lose control of his class attendance, his behavior became erratic and volatile, and he was arrested for cocaine possession.

Todd signed a three-year $2.27 million deal with the Raiders in 1991, but he did not start a game until the final week of the season, when he made an impact with three touchdown passes against the Kansas City Chiefs in a close loss. But, his next game against the Chiefs in the playoffs was poor, throwing just 140 with four interceptions in a 10-6 loss. He smashed a locker room mirror with his helmet after that game.

After the 1992 up-and-down season, Marinovich never played again in the NFL and was eventually released by the Raiders. After that release, Marinovich had stints in the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League, but his career was plagued by scandals filled with rape charges, drugs, paternity suits and other legal problems.

In 2004, Marinovich was listed as one of ESPN.com's "25 Biggest Sports Flops." In 2007, Marinovich was arrested and charged with felony drug possession and resisting a police officer. He spent ninety days in Jail in 1998. In August 2008, after one year of sobriety, Todd Marinovich was hired by Newport Coast Recovery, a men-only drug and alcohol treatment facility in Newport Beach as a lecturer.

Todd has a younger brother named Mikhail who plays as a tight end at Syracuse Unversity.
